5 Tips for Writing Product Titles that Sell

May 12, 2026

You only have about three seconds to capture a shopper's attention online. Before they see your beautiful product images or read your carefully crafted description, they read your product title. If it doesn't hook them, they keep scrolling.

1. Front-Load the Most Important Information

Shoppers skim. Always put the brand name, core product type, and key selling feature in the first 40 characters. Don't hide the fact that your mug is "Self-Heating" at the very end of the title.

2. Keep Mobile in Mind

Over 60% of e-commerce traffic comes from mobile devices. Mobile screens often cut off titles after 70 characters. Ensure your title makes perfect sense even if the second half gets truncated.

3. Avoid "Keyword Stuffing"

While SEO is important, your title must be readable by humans. A title like "Coffee Mug Blue Cup Hot Drink Cup Handle Mug" looks like spam and destroys buyer trust. Blend keywords naturally into a descriptive phrase.

4. Be Specific with Variations

If your product comes in different sizes, colors, or materials, state the specific variation in the title. "ZenEarth Yoga Mat - 5mm Extra Thick - Ocean Blue" prevents confusion and reduces return rates.

5. State the Core Benefit

If your product solves a specific problem, hint at it in the title. "Noise-Cancelling Sleep Headphones" tells the buyer exactly what value they are getting immediately.
